Abstract

The Perfusionists represent a highly specialized workforce within cardiovascular and critical care medicine, with responsibilities centered on the safe management of extracorporeal circulation. The profession emerged alongside the development of cardiopulmonary bypass and has historically been associated with intraoperative support during cardiac surgery. Over time, however, advances in medical technology and expanding therapeutic applications have reshaped both the scope and expectations of perfusion practice
